OpenAudio is a proprietary Bose technology that plays audio a short distance from your ear canal, detailed and private—without sealing your ear. Each earbud uses a tiny dipole transducer system engineered for loud and clear personal audio that stays at the ear instead of going everywhere else. This minimizes sound leakage and improves audio quality while simultaneously allowing you to remain fully aware of your surroundings.

The engineering of these earbuds was a matter of squeezing Bose OpenAudio technology—which projects deep, rich sound across a short distance of open space to your ear canal—into a shape that could grip your ear extremely gently, leaving your ear open to outside sounds.
This design process resulted in the Open Earbuds’ unique shape, inspired by earcuff jewelry. The light-as-air flex arm connects the audio portion of the earbud to a battery barrel that goes behind your ear, providing just enough grip to keep the earbuds secure on any size ear.

The Bose Music app is your gateway to controlling the settings of your Open Earbuds and ensuring you have the latest features and performance through software updates. With the Bose Music app, you can:
- Customize the shortcut function on each earbud’s button, choosing between access to Immersive Audio settings, your mobile device’s built-in voice assistant, device connections, and more
- Adjust EQ settings: modify the bass, midrange, and treble levels to your preference
- Create a SimpleSync connection to share audio from another Bose product. Rename your earbuds to change how they appear in your mobile device’s Bluetooth settings
- Choose Immersive Audio settings and experience the Immersive Audio demo to hear the difference between traditional stereo and immersive music that sounds as if it were onstage in front of you
- Calibrate Bose Immersive Audio to the particular angle of the Open Earbuds uniquely on your ears to improve the accuracy of the Immersive Audio simulation

Each earbud provides up to 7.5 hours of playback (four hours with Immersive Audio) or up to 48 hours on standby. With the included charging case, you can get an extra 2.5 full charges (roughly 19.5 hours), for a total of 27 hours of playback (16.5 with Immersive Audio). You can also get two hours of extra playtime from a 10-minute fast charge.
