Haven't used Sony 70-300; but Tamron 70-300 us giving me amazing results at half the price and almost half the weight .

Performance wise it’s almost same. However Tamron is much lesser in cost and super light weight as compared to Sony.

Never got the Sony Lens for comparison. But Tamron is giving me great results and no negatives yet.

I guess it is, in case you are looking for a budget lens with performance; leaving behind features like lens lock, AF/MF switch, original Sony lens etc. It really is a worthy piece with very less weight on the travel kit. Performance at par with Sony.

I guess it should be in terms of budget. The only drawback I feel is the lack of AF/MF switch and lens lock, which isnt really an issue with my A7III. I am too happy with the results. Glad that I bought it after reading loads of reviews and thoughts. I did not find the lens creeping as well. Smooth and sits tight. This lens is worth it, with half the price and half the weight of Sony 70-300.

Havent tried the Sony 70-300 yet. However, Tamron 70-300 is a woderful lens with imprressive results. With its weight at almost half of Sony's, it is light on your travel kit as well. Not a good performer on low light though. Although reviews talk about lack of lens lock and lens creep, I did not have a problem with it. Worth the money at half the price of Sony 70-300.
