ASUS RT-AC68U Overview
Boost the speed, reliability, and range of your home wireless network with the RT-AC68U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1900 Gigabit Wi-Fi Router from ASUS. Capable of up to 1900 Mb/s of total Wi-Fi throughput, this dual-band Wi-Fi 5 router supports AiMesh technology, which lets you use multiple AiMesh-enabled routers together to create a single, seamless Wi-Fi network.
The RT-AC68U comes equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet WAN port and four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, ideal for wired connections to computers, game consoles, TV set-top boxes, or another AiMesh router. USB 3.1 Gen 1 and USB 2.0 Type-A ports let you connect printers, storage devices, and other USB devices to the network. AiProtection Pro service helps to defend your network from online threats, while parental controls let you decide how and when your kids can connect to the internet. Up to three guest networks let you grant Wi-Fi access to visitors without having to compromise your Wi-Fi password.
General Features
AiMesh Technology
The RT-AC68U supports ASUS AiMesh technology to create a whole-home Wi-Fi system with enhanced performance. AiMesh can create a single, house-wide network name so there's no need to constantly switch between networks as you roam around your home. AiMesh keeps an eye on the signal strength to your device, and switches it seamlessly to another source if necessary.
Your Network, Your Choice
AiMesh enables the creation of separate SSIDs for each frequency band, while still providing seamless roaming within the network. This gives you increased flexibility, allowing you to dedicate the 5 GHz band to gaming devices or a smart TV.
Ethernet Backhaul
AiMesh supports Ethernet backhaul, enabling users with on-wall Ethernet jacks in their home to create a wired connection between the routers in their network. This not only provides fast and reliable inter-router communication for even more stable Wi-Fi, but also dedicates the entire 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands to wireless devices for smoother connections.
VPN Enabled
Set up a VPN server with MPPE encryption, ideal for secure remote access to your network.
NVIDIA GameStream Ready
Your router is about to have a lot more fun. That's because it can stream all your favorite PC games to the NVIDIA SHIELD portable to play anywhere in the house using NVIDIA GameStream technology. ASUS routers are designed to deliver lag-free, high-performance game streaming from GeForce GTX-powered computers or NVIDIA GRID cloud gaming systems.
TurboQAM Wi-Fi Acceleration
TurboQAM technology allows for 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi performance up to 600 Mb/s, and up to 1300 Mb/s on the 5 GHz band.
Dual-Core Processor
The ASUS RT-AC68U features a dual-core processor that helps to minimize performance drops, which helps to deliver smooth HD video streaming, low-latency online gaming and VoIP calls, and uninterrupted file downloads.
Enhanced Signal Range and Stability
ASUS AiRadar intelligently strengthens wireless connectivity using beamforming technology, high power amplification, and exclusive ASUS RF fine-tuning. This helps to ensure extended coverage, dynamic data speed increases, and enhanced stability.
USB Sharing
Two USB ports make the RT-AC68U ideal for file, multimedia, and 3G/4G sharing, while ASUS AiDisk offers remote access and quick content streaming. Where other routers have their USB ports sandwiched next to one another, both RT-AC68U USB ports are evenly spaced for easy access to either at all times.
Control and Optimization with ASUSWRT
With the ASUSWRT dashboard UI, you can set up, monitor, and control network applications all in one intuitive area. ASUSWRT features multi-device detection, flexible settings that make the most of your network performance, and quick scanning of connected USB storage to verify data integrity and drive health. Dual WAN allows for two connections/ISPs on one router, with load balance and failover mode for added stability and redundancy to help ensure uninterrupted internet access.
Quality of Service
QoS optimizes inbound and outbound bandwidth on both wired and wireless connections. Applications and tasks can be prioritized easily using drag-and-drop presets for gaming, media streaming, VoIP, web browsing and file transfers. Major consoles such as PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PS4 Pro, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, 3DS, and Xbox One are supported.
ASUS Router App
The ASUS Router App allows you to set up your router, manage network traffic, diagnose connection issues, and update firmware, all without needing to boot up a PC.
ASUS AiCloud
ASUS AiCloud keeps you connected to your data wherever and whenever you have an internet connection. It links your home network and online Web storage service and lets you access it through the AiCloud mobile app on your iOS or Android smartphone or through a personalized URL in a web browser. The Router-to-Router Sync function allows you to synchronize your files with storage devices connected to other compatible ASUS routers.
Online Multitasking
Support for up to 300,000 data sessions means the RT-AC68U has about 20x the networking capacity of conventional routers, allowing for exceptionally smooth performance.
Download and Stream Anywhere
Download Master and an enhanced media server let you download and play multimedia files stored on router-attached USB storage on a wide range of compatible devices, such as computers, tablets, game consoles, and smart TVs. Download Master can also download files while your PC is turned off, and allows you to manage and monitor download status remotely.
Dedicated Wi-Fi for Your Visitors
Share your internet connection with your guests without sharing your personal password or network resources. ASUS Guest Network supports up to three separate guest networks, each with its own usage limits and password. Guests cannot access your primary network or any other connected devices.

Parental Controls
Internet Activity Dashboard
View each family member's internet activity on a clear graphical dashboard showing the peak time and what kind of content they are viewing. You can group devices that belong to your children to view aggregated data and apply scheduled block times and content filters with just a few taps.
Kid-Safe Preset
Check the box when editing a device and profile, and the preset automatically applies filters for inappropriate content to all their devices.
Schedule Block Time
Reserve valuable family time or help your children develop responsible behavior by selecting scheduled time periods to block internet access on specific devices.
Content Filter
Block specific categories of mobile apps and websites, and apply these settings to all devices belonging to individual family members. The advanced filtering integrates Trend Micro's Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) engine to filter not only by website URL, but also by the internet packets themselves, which means it filters content viewed not only in a web browser, but also within mobile apps on your devices.
